Claire is up for the challenge

I’m Claire, one of the Children’s Rights Unit Young Trustees and I love being a trustee because it challenges me and has taught me an awful lot about how an organisation runs and works, not to mention why trustees are so important. I work in the charity sector too, so being a trustee has given me a real insight into how hard it is to be one and also feel like you’re a part of all the work that is going on. It certainly makes you realise just how challenging the role is and also how hard it is when you have a small team that actively relies on you, your opinions and guidance.

I would absolutely recommend being a trustee to anyone, especially if you’re younger and looking to gain an understanding into charity work. If you’re working in another sector it’s an excellent chance to learn about areas you may never usually get the chance to be involved in.

Despite its challenges, it’s ultimately extremely rewarding, as you’re part of some amazing work and we’re very lucky at the CRU to have an amazing team running the day to day operations too. They are the real heroes!
