Children in care sell cakes to raise money for dementia

The Neath Port Talbot children in care youth council, YOVO, held a cake sale at Neath Civic Centre on Thursday 28th February to raise money for dementia and raised a whopping £122! Throughout 2018, YOVO have been working hard to improve the rights of children and young people in care and decided to raise money and awareness for a local dementia charity after successfully being awarded a NPTCVS Youth Grant. With their funds they also purchased board games so that they can spend time at a local elderly care home, this intergenerational project will ensure they gain a better understanding of dementia whilst raising awareness.

The young people gained some valuable life skills including promotion, budgeting and sales. The project has been supported by Bulldogs Community Gym who kindly accommodated planning meetings, provided equipment and even found kind donors to provide cakes. YOVO will be holding games events during the Easter holidays and undertaking more fundraising in the very near future. YOVO candles will be on sale soon!!
