A Good Week for Children's Rights!

Last week was an action packed week for the Children’s Rights Unit and we’d like to say a great big THANK YOU to all the superheroes who came along to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the UNCRC with us!
CRU Children’s Champions past and present organised a Superhero party and invited other children and young people along to learn about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. There was a bouncy castle, face painting, lots of games and an array of incredible superhero costumes.

Last week also saw the ABMU Health Board launch their Children’s Rights Charter which illustrated their commitment to listening to children and young people and supporting their rights.

The Children’s Rights Unit also organised the Rights Respecting Schools Conference, in partnership with UNICEF. The conference was opened by the Children’s Commissioner for Wales and celebrated the wonderful work by local schools in promoting and respecting the rights of the children.

Last but not least, on Thursday we attended the International Children’s Day Celebration at UNICEF House in London to mark Neath Port Talbot’s involvement in the Partners Project, which aims to bring together UNICEF UK and local government to put children’s rights at the heart of public services and ensure all children have the same opportunity to flourish.

Events last week highlighted the vast amount of work going on locally to promote and protect the rights of children and young people. We were proud to be involved and inspired by Children’s Rights Week and hope you were too. If you work with children and young people in Neath Port Talbot we’d love to hear your thoughts on children’s rights. Let us know what you think here
